About Ketamine Therapy

What is ketamine

Ketamine is a safe and effective medicine used in clinical settings for over 50 years. It is known as a dissociative anesthetic and has primarily been used for anesthesia and pain management. Recently, ketamine has been used off label as an effective rapid acting treatment for depression, PTSD, anxiety, OCD, substance use disorders, suicidal ideation and other psychiatric conditions. The dose used for treating psychiatric conditions is a fraction of the amount used in anesthesia.

What is it used for?

Ketamine creates a powerful effect that can be quite an effective catalyst for psychotherapy as it enhances neuroplasticity (positive brain changes) and motivation, which can support the individual as they work towards their specific goals. Ketamine can be helpful as it reduce defensiveness and sensitivity while enhancing our ability to see our life in a new way. The dissociative quality of ketamine can disrupt dysfunctional cognitive patterns associated with depression, anxiety, and PTSD. Ketamine is a unique as its currently the only legal medicine used in the psychedelic assisted psychotherapy framework.

Our Approach

Rivus Wellness approaches ketamine in a way that understands the most effective means of utilizing this powerful treatment is combined with psychotherapy. Ketamine alone is not a sufficient treatment for any mental health disorder. Our approach differs from the typical medical model of using infusions alone without the adequate psychological support. We use this medicine to enhance the psychotherapy process. Ketamine can produce a profound shift in consciousness which can facilitate growth and healing in an individual when integrated into an approach involving proper preparation and skilled integration for a effective and positive experience.
